3D Week 01 Assignment(UE4 Cube Creation)


So I had a ton of fun working on this project.   I was inspired by boss arena's and levels in games so during the creative process of this assignment I decided to create my own boss and its corresponding level!  Below is the mannequin after I pulled it from the Unreal Engine and brought it into Maya.  The cube is also next to it for the scale reference.

Here's the cube after I created it and beveled it.


This is my material instance set up and the parent material I created.


These next three images are the material instances I created for my project and I placed them on some sample cubes to show them more clearly.
Finally here is my boss creature in its crystalline arena level!  It's pretty massive compared to the mannequin and it allowed me to get some cool shots of the boss.  I used a lot of reflective surfaces and the metallic material modifier.  I got the idea for this boss after I watched the demo videos and playing around with the material editing I started getting these really interesting reflections of the other models on the level.


I kept the mannequin visible for this shot just to show how big the model of the boss was.  He's standing on top of the bosses hand!

Top image is the reference Syd Mead work and the bottom image is my shape recreation in photoshop.  I tried to get as close to the original image as possible by stretching and distorting the basic shapes as I drew them.
